da cassino: Throughout the whole summer transfer window, Zinedine Zidane reportedly insisted that the club should only chase Paul Pogba and no one else. But that deal never went through and AS claim that Los Blancos could now be reigniting some old flames that were sidetracked by the Frenchman’s pursuit in the last window. This, if true, just might be the best choice they’ve made in a while.
What’s the word, then?
This is certainly not the first time Donny van de Beek has been mentioned as a Real Madrid target. Throughout the summer, there were whispers that this deal could go through but Pogba was always the priority. And at the end of the day, there’s a feeling that Los Blancos’ interest in Pogba was the main reason why the Dutchman never ended up in the Spanish capital.

Still, if the report from AS is true, Real Madrid are ready to come back for the 22-year-old midfielder next year. The same outlet mentions that he would’ve cost around €50m (£44.6m) but that this price tag could very well go up if he improves on the results of last season.
Be that as it may, going for van de Beek should definitely top Real’s priority list.
A brilliant alternative
Looking at this deal in its entirety, it should definitely be a no-brainer for Zinedine Zidane. Of course, Pogba seems flashier and truer to the Galactico way but van de Beek would, in theory, bring as much quality as the Frenchman at a cheaper price.
Even if his asking price rises dramatically it’s difficult to see it go above Pogba’s, which, if reports are true, was around €200m (£178.6m) at one point during the last transfer window.
But van de Beek’s accomplishments last season must not be overlooked. The 22-year-old midfielder managed to bag 17 goals and 13 assists across all competitions throughout last season, assuming both the role of the creator and finisher at Ajax.
And it seems that the trend is likely to continue into the 2019/20 campaign. With three games in the bag already, the young Dutchman has netted two goals and provided three assists in Eredivisie so far.
By all accounts, he seems like the real deal and quite a cheap one at that.
Real Madrid must not let this opportunity pass them by.
