da betano casino: Young Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria has completed a medical at Sunderland ahead of a loan move to the Championship club, according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie.
What’s the word?
On deadline day, Sunderland are second bottom of the Championship and in real danger of suffering their second consecutive relegation. And having overseen an overhaul of the squad so far this month, new manager Chris Coleman is set to bring in Ejaria from Anfield on loan until the end of the season.
Is this a positive sign for the player?
He’s named the ‘English Pogba’, and whilst that sort of tag is never particularly helpful, it does show how well thought-of Ejaria is.
As such, a loan move now seems like the perfect option, especially into a competitive league. In the case of Sunderland, Ejaria – who Transfermarkt value at £450k – will be joining a club with a manager who has experience at all levels, but he’ll also be joining a club where there is pressure to perform: after all, he’s walking into a relegation battle at a club who are adjusting to Championship life after 10 years in the Premier League.
Will he progress at Sunderland?
That’s the big question for any loan deal, and this one is no different. At 20 years of age, Ejaria is still very young, but it seems as though footballers break through younger and younger these days.
Despite their lowly position and the fact that the club has suffered a huge trauma over the last 18 months, there are signs that things could pick up under Coleman. But from a Liverpool point of view, dropping one of their young players into that environment can be make or break: either Ejaria performs under the pressure and proves to be a gem for Sunderland, or his confidence might take a hit from six months at a club in trouble.
At Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has shown with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn and Dominic Solanke that he’s not adverse to putting a young player into the side if he’s good enough, and if Ejaria can make sure that his time on Wearside is a success, who knows what might be in store for the youngster next season. He could well follow those names in becoming a regular member of Liverpool’s first team squad.
