da lvbet: Former Blackburn defender Christopher Samba has been the subject of racist abuse whilst playing for new club Anzhi Makhachkala.
During a Russian Premier League fixture against Lokomotiv Moscow, a fan threw a banana from the stands at the centre back, in the latest instance of racism in eastern European football.
Samba was saddened by the incident, and feels it is a bad example for children who were present at the game.
“I am very sad that this happened in front of children who were sitting in the same stand. It is a really bad example for them,” he is reported to have said according to The Daily Mail.
A spokesman for Anzhi confirmed the incident and backed his player over his response to the abuse.
“A banana came down at Samba from the VIP section, as the teams were leaving the field. Who threw it is unknown. Samba picked up the banana and threw it back. In our opinion this was the best and most appropriate response to those responsible.”
