It’s the place where Mohamed Salah scored his very first goal in the colours of Liverpool last season. A six-goal thriller that ended in a 3-3 draw at Vicarage Road on the very first weekend of last terms, was to many, an indication that this was going to be another struggling season for Jurgen Klopp’s men, or so they thought.
But Liverpool went on to complete one of their more successful seasons in recent years that saw them play in the Champions League final and Salah win the Premier League Golden Boot with a record-breaking 32 league goals.
And although the Reds, who are title contenders this time around, head into Saturday’s clash with Watford as clear favourites, they should take a big hint of caution with them to avoid complacency come kickoff.
The Hornets have proven to be quite a different team when they host some of the bigger clubs and have already toppled Tottenham Hotspur, while they came extremely close to beating Manchester United as well.
Jurgen Klopp’s men, on the other hand, haven’t been at their very best in recent matches. An unconvincing 2-0 win over Fulham before the international break was preceded by three away trips where Liverpool were a bit off the pace, most notably a 1-0 win at Huddersfield and a shock 2-0 loss at Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
And although the current Liverpool team have shown a lot of improvement in terms of consistency and getting the job done despite not being at their best, Watford would fancy themselves to get a result and try to frustrate Klopp’s charges for as long as possible.
Watford have had a very good start to the season, that saw them win all of their first four matches, but failed to pick up a win at Newcastle United and Southampton in their previous two matches, leaving them in seventh position in the Premier League.
That position, however, should be a warning to Liverpool that they are very much to get tested on Saturday and that Watford could continue their surge to fight for a spot in Europe next season.
