Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has told Barcelona that he will sign for the club as long as he is regarded as their star man, according to Diario Gol.
What’s the story?
The France international was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
It was widely reported that Griezmann had chosen to join Jose Mourinho’s team, but the forward ended up staying at Atletico Madrid after the club’s transfer ban was imposed.
Now, rumours in Spain are rumbling that Barcelona could be an option for the 26-year-old.
Diario Gol claims that Griezmann has told the Catalan giants that he is open to moving to the Camp Nou, but only if he becomes the team’s main man.
What should United do?
If the attacking star was previously willing to move to Old Trafford, then United should reignite their interest.
Even if Barcelona’s interest is genuine, the Red Devils are capable of competing with the La Liga side, both in ambition and wages.
Romelu Lukaku was Mourinho’s big buy in the summer and he proved to be the right choice considering that the striker scored 15 goals in his first 12 games in all competitions.
In his last seven outings, the Belgian has registered two assists, but he has failed to find the back of the net.
If United also had Griezmann in their ranks, a dip in goalscoring form from Lukaku would not be hugely noticeable.
It is worthwhile jumping back in the market for the Atletico star, but United need to be wary of the player potentially using the club to get a better offer elsewhere.
