da pinnacle: Things were beginning to really click for Tottenham this year.
da bet esporte: Despite that loss to Monaco in the Champions League the Lilywhites are unbeaten in the Premier League and sit third in the division behind the fast starting Manchester City and the increasingly impressive Everton. Back to back victories against Stoke and Sunderland had certainly aided their cause as key player Mousa Dembele also returned to action.
Meanwhile, off the pitch, Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen have all signed new contracts meaning there’s a pretty decent feel-good factor about the club. It’s only decent though, as that victory against Sunderland came at a cost.
Harry Kane rolled his ankle and was seen leaving White Hart Lane on crutches implying it’s a fairly serious injury that’s befallen him. Spurs have a talented squad of course, but Kane is the one who makes them a proper force and without him they don’t look as potent.
Here then, are FIVE reasons why his injury could be a real disaster for Tottenham…
He’s their best striker
This is the most obvious negative to losing Kane to injury. He’s by far Spurs most talented forward and was key to their title challenge last season. When fit he’s always going to start and the club were hoping he’d be even better this year to help them secure the Premier League crown for the first time. Most teams would miss a player of his calibre and Spurs need to try and limit the damage.
He’d found his scoring touch
Kane had finally broken his duck this season against Stoke and managed to follow it up against Sunderland suggesting he was ready to embark on another season of fine goal-scoring form but this injury looks to have robbed Spurs of that for now. Tottenham were beginning to get up a head of steam over the last couple of games with Kane scoring and now that’s been somewhat thrown off course.
Vincent Janssen hasn’t scored
The Dutch forward came into the league with the accolade of being the Eredivisie’s top scorer last season but he has yet to replicate that form so far. It’s early days and a different league of course but with Kane on the sidelines, Spurs need Janssen to get going soon. If he doesn’t, and there’s a chance he won’t, the Lilywhites could struggle for goals whilst Kane is out.
More big games than last season
Although many sides won’t admit it, the Europa League is used as a chance to rest players, particularly in the group stages and Spurs could do that last season. In the Champions League, though, they cannot do that and they’ll need the whole of their squad to be fit not just Kane. Without him, they look stretched up front whilst the Premier League provides even fewer chances to rest players this season too.
The teams around them are stronger than last season
Tottenham were great to watch last season and deserved Champions League football but they largely profited from the teams usually competing for those spots struggling. Chelsea were woeful last year and look better, Liverpool appear to be stronger whilst Manchester United and Manchester City are also bigger threats. Spurs need Kane to help them compete and so will need him back as soon as possible.
