While speaking to Tottenham’s official website, Dier gave his thoughts on the opening fixture.
“Newcastle have just come up [as Championship winners] and I’m sure the atmosphere will be fantastic for their first game back in the Premier League. We want to start well, and make up for what happened there on the last day of the season two years ago.”
Spurs will be favourites heading into the match considering that they ended last season runners-up to champions Chelsea.
They will be looking to go one step further in the upcoming campaign, and hitting the ground running is vital in order to put down a marker.
Newcastle fans, though, are not scared and have instead mocked Dier for his comments.
