da pinnacle: According to The Express, Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand and Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson in a £65m swoop in this summer’s transfer window.
What’s the story?
da winzada777: Both Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose are expected to leave Tottenham this summer, which will force head coach Mauricio Pochettino into the transfer market for reinforcements.
According to The Express, Pochettino has identified two Englishman as the perfect players to boost his back-line, with Bertrand and Mawson on his wish-list.
Bertrand is widely expected to leave Southampton regardless of whether the Saints remain in the Premier League, whilst the same can be said for Mawson and Swansea.
Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the pair, but according to The Express, Tottenham are preparing a £65m swoop in an attempt to win the race.
Are the pair right for Tottenham?
Bertrand only signed a new five-year contract with Southampton in 2016, but the club are currently battling to stay in the Premier League, and the former Chelsea left-back will surely move on at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old is said to be rated at £25m by the Saints, while Mawson could fetch £40m with Swansea aware of the interest in the centre-back.
There is no question that both players have proved that they can operate in the Premier League, but it is not quite the double signing that Tottenham fans would have had in mind.
Indeed, with respect to both, they are not players that will take Tottenham to a new level when considering that the London club have hopes of launching a title challenge next season.
The pair would provide good cover for problematic positions at White Hart Lane, but £65m is a huge chunk of Pochettino’s summer budget, and it does seem awfully steep when considering that Spurs desperately need at least two new midfielders.
