According to The Telegraph, Everton have begun negotiations with Chelsea over the permanent signing of Kurt Zouma.
What’s the word, then?
Well, the centre-back spent last season on loan with the Toffees and impressed the Everton faithful, so much so that many fans were calling for his arrival on a permanent basis towards the end of last season.
Zouma made 32 Premier League appearances under Marco Silva, scoring two goals and recording two assists, and was a key part of the Toffees side that finished eighth – Silva said that he would like to bring both the French international and Andre Gomes back permanently due to their good form.
The fans in the video below had some very strong words for Michael Platini who was detained over alleged corruption this week…
The former Saint-Etienne defender’s parent club Chelsea are currently under a transfer ban, so it could be deemed as a major coup if the Merseysiders can get the 24-year-old away from Stamford Bridge and signed on a permanent basis.
Where does this leave Mina?
Zouma doesn’t look likely to come cheap given his £25m valuation on Transfermarkt, but another man who didn’t come cheap last summer was Yerry Mina – a €30.25m (£27.2m) arrival from Barcelona.
The Colombian international endured a horrid debut season at Goodison Park last term, managing to make just 15 appearances for his new side amid a series of injury issues and spells out the team thanks to Zouma and Michael Keane’s solid partnership.

If Zouma did return to the club, Mina would potentially find himself as third choice yet again as one would assume Silva wouldn’t want to break up the Frenchman’s partnership with Keane – another real setback for the South American.
It would be even more of a blow to the former Palmeiras centre-back if the 24-year-old signed, as he has been showing encouraging signs that he may be back to his best whilst on Copa America duty with his country recently.
If Zouma arrives permanently, you do have to wonder where it would leave the £27.2m man.
